BURDETTE  RESIDENCE

For the remodel of this tract house overlooking Mission Bay, a second story was added to accommodate the needs of the family of four. The upper floor contains the master bedroom suite, two bedrooms, bath, laundry, and a covered terrace.  The existing lower floor was remodeled with an open great room having the living, dining, and kitchen spaces.  The upper floor steps up under the rise of the sloped roof providing a high ceiling in the great room below.  A combination of yellow stucco, grey stucco with horizontal banding, and white lap siding breaks down the massing of the house. The roof, covered in black shingles, wraps over the end wall of the house bringing the scale down of the addition and creating a dynamic quality to the composition. The master bedroom has large windows and sliding glass doors opening onto the covered roof terrace with views to Mission Bay beyond. An outdoor fireplace on the terrace adds to the ambiance and is visible from the master bedroom.
